Travis Scott Free from Charges After Altercation with Bodyguard

Police released Rapper Travis Scott from their custody on no charges after getting into a fight with his bodyguard in Paris. He was in town to see the Olympics. The fight occurred in the George V luxury hotel where Scott and his crew stayed.

The Story of the Travis Scott Fight

The fight occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, August 9. At 5 AM Paris time, police responded to a call after Scott allegedly attacked a security guard who intervened in the fight. They arrested the musician and took him to jail.

Footage obtained by the press shows the rapper exiting the hotel escorted by police. He bows his head while handcuffed. Law enforcement pushes down on his shoulders as they escort him into a waiting police car.

After his release from jail, authorities transported Scott to the hospital by ambulance. After breaking a vase during the altercation, the press reported that he might have injured his hand. There were reportedly no injuries to any other party.

The Reason for the Fight

The rapper was reportedly angry at his bodyguard for failing to protect him during his time in Paris adequately. Various social media posts show Travis Scott asking the police to keep fans and paparazzi away from him. He resorted to asking government agencies for help because his security team was not doing their job.

Travis Scott Case Dismissed

According to TMZ, authorities dismissed the case due to insufficient characterization. Characterization is the process of determining which laws apply to a particular situation. The court must decide which laws to use. It may also refer to legal parties determining who the property belongs to when spouses sue each other.

TMZ also reported that authorities released Scott with no charges and that there are no plans for future charges regarding the case. However, this information has not been confirmed.

Travis Scott is no stranger to the legal system. In June, police arrested him on trespassing and disorderly conduct charges in Miami-Dade County Jail. Scott had been drinking and began yelling obscenities to passengers on a yacht.

Although officers asked him to leave, he returned to the dock and continued his disruptive behavior.

The authorities recently dropped the disorderly conduct charge, but Scott still faces trespassing charges. His attorney, Bradford Cohen, commented that the rapper “was briefly detained due to a misunderstanding.”

“There was absolutely no physical altercation involved and we thank authorities for working with us towards a swift and amicable resolution,” he added.

Scott is also known for his raucous live performances. During one fateful performance at the Astroworld Festival in 2021, 10 people died. Although the rapper faced no criminal charges for the tragedy, he has encountered several civil lawsuits brought by the victims’ families.

“I always think about it. Those fans were like my family. You just feel for those people and their families,” the rapper said about the incident in a GQ interview.

During the Cannes Film Festival, Scott also got into an altercation with Cher’s boyfriend, music executive Alexander “AE” Edwards. Both men, along with rapper Tyga, were on stage behind a DJ booth when the fight broke out. It is unclear what provoked the incident.

Plans for Scott

Scott, AKA Jacques Bermon Webster, was in Paris to catch the Olympics men’s basketball semi-finals in which the U.S. beat Serbia. Just a few days before, he had wrapped up the European leg of his Circus Maximus tour in Lisbon, Portugal.

The rapper has received 10 Grammy Award nominations, including one for Best Rap Album for his 2023 release, “Utopia.”
