Sean Diddy Combs has been in the news often- and not for the right reasons. His charges include sex trafficking, violence, and other convictions. All that has led up to Sean Diddy Combs’ arrest. He is currently in jail without bail.
The Reasons Behind Sean Diddy Combs Arrest
Prosecutors uncovered criminal acts involving Combs dating back to 2008. Specifically, they accused him of coercing victims into sex acts called Freak Offs. Additionally, he allegedly drugged them to control them for extended periods. Furthermore, many of these acts were reportedly recorded for his viewing.
The rapper’s charges include racketeering, sex trafficking, and prostitution transportation.
The public first found out about Combs’ illicit activities when his former romantic partner, singer Cassie Combs, filed a civil suit against him for alleged sexual and physical abuse. A video surfaced of Diddy beating his ex-girlfriend.
Her actions caused other women to come forward. Joi Dickerson Neal accused him of drugging her and sexually assaulting her. A Jane Doe claimed Combs gang-raped and sex trafficked her when she was just 17 and the singer was 34.
These accusations led Homeland Security to raid the rapper’s home. They seized over 1000 bottles of baby oil, lubricant, and narcotics. He was arrested in New York for related charges on Monday.
The Court Case
A court case followed Sean Diddy Combs’ arrest. Moreover, the U.S. government is seeking to recover significant financial assets from the rapper, including real and personal property and an “undetermined sum of money.”
The case found that Combs’ business was part of his illicit activities. In addition to working as a musician, Combs also controlled an empire of record labels, alcohol, and clothing brands. Prosecutors are alleging that the rapper used his business and his employees to carry out sexual acts.
Loses Key to City
A year ago, Combs was an honored figure in New York City. “He stood in Times Square and was handed a key to the city,” said prosecuting U.S. Attorney Damian Williams. “Today, he’s been indicted and will face justice in the Southern District of New York.
Mayor Eric Adams asked Combs to return the key. The rapper complied.
Diddy Detained
The Sean Diddy Combs arrest is ongoing. The U.S. government does not want him released on bail. They believe he could be a flight risk if released. He may also obstruct and tamper with witnesses as per his history.
Additionally, Williams does not believe the rapper will be in danger behind bars. He stated, “I do not see any connection between Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide and what may or may not happen to any other defendant during pretrial detention. We believe pretrial detention is warranted under the law and based on the facts of this case.”
Combs offered to post a $50 million bond and wear a GPS monitor if released. Federal prosecutors still ask the judge to deny bail, and his defense lawyer hopes to get bail for his client.
Defense Attorney Denies Claims
Combs’ defense attorney denied his client sex trafficked. However, he conceded the rapper has been “unfaithful” for “dark periods” throughout the decade. He also stated that his client is not one of the nation’s most notorious sex criminals. “He was in a 10-year loving relationship with dark periods,” he stated.
The rapper was apparently in New York to turn himself in when the Sean Diddy Combs arrest occurred. He has apologized for his violent behavior towards Cassie Combs. However, prosecuting parties found his actions “inexcusable.”
